The Ultimate Guide to Gluten Free Snacks 2024

With each new year comes the discovery of new gluten free snacks.  With so many choices, I’ve decided to make my ultimate guide to gluten free snacks a yearly tradition.  The 2024 lineup will not disappoint you. What are the best gluten free snacks? Well, I’ve got some of the best for you: cookies, freeze dried fruit, fruit leather, meat sticks, crackers, brownies, cupcakes, and bagel chips. I could keep going. I hope that you’ll discover something new as well.  My review will be honest.

For complete disclosure, many of the companies (not all) featured today gifted me free samples of their products for the purpose of a review.  This was my idea, and I made the initial contact with each company.  Having said that, my opinions are my own and have not been paid for.  I provide an honest assessment of each product.

Gluten Free Snacks

Mom’s Munchies
Cookies, Bars, and Bites

This was perhaps one of the best finds in my research. Mom’s Munchies are gluten free, dairy free, and plant based, but every single item my family sampled was chock full of deliciousness.  Let’s talk cookies.  The Skinny Mint Cookie is basically a gigantic Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie but better.  The mint is subtle, which I loved, and the chocolate is abundant, which I also love. When my husband tried these, he took one bite and gave me a look and a “No Way”.  My reply was “Seriously.”  It’s like we were talking in code or something. Amazing.  The Choco Chunk Hemp Cookie, which I neglected to share with anyone else, was equally amazing.  One bite and I was surrounded in almond goodness. This cookie has almond extract – hand’s down my favorite scent and flavor.  If you want amazing cookies, check these two out!

Mom’s Munchies also features what they call ‘bites’.  The bites are little soft cookie-like bites filled with things like oats, sweet potato, apple, and spices.  These bites were amazing and so delicious. They’d be perfect lunchbox treats.

I loved – I mean really loved – every single thing that I sampled from Mom’s Munchies.  I whole heartedly, 100% recommend them to you!

Mid-Day Squares (affiliate link)
Functional Chocolate Squares

I have been a huge fan of Mid-Day Squares for a while.  These are truly amazing treats.  Don’t let the word ‘functional’ scare you away.  Each square contains 4g of fiber, 6g of protein, and only 4g total sugar. My favorite, Brownie Batter, features ingredients such as olive oil, Jerusalem artichoke, carob, fava bean protein, and apple cider vinegar. These are the perfect snack when you are looking for something with a bit of sweetness but don’t want to go sugar crazy. Each bar has a nice thick layer of chocolate that sits on top of a softer bar. These can ordered online or found in the refrigerator section of major retailers like Target. Their other flavors include: Almond, Peanut, and Cookie Dough.

Peaceful Fruits
Fruit Leather, Fruit Tape, Fruit Stickers, 100% fruit goodies!

Friends, if you have kids, you are going to want to check out Peaceful Fruits.  I was completely bowled over by their products.  Not only are they delicious and feature nothing but fruit, but they are so stinkin’ adorable. The fruit stickers feature super cute shapes like animals, monsters, and princess themed items. Each comes on its own sheet which allows for easy peeling.  These are perfect for lunchboxes, Halloween treats, road trips, or soccer games.  No dyes, no funky flavors, no sugar, nothing artificial.

In addition to great products, Peaceful Fruits is also doing a lot of good in the community.

Gluten Free Crackers & Cookies

Outside the Breadbox has so many great gluten free items to choose from.  Their chocolate chip cookies have great flavor and crunch.  My family also likes their cheddar crackers.  They have great flavor and a really great crispiness. There are also graham crackers.  They offer such a wide array of treats.

Maine Crisp
Buckwheat Crackers

Not only are these crackers delicious, but they are so pretty.  These are truly classy – if a cracker can be classy.  These would look amazing as part of a gluten free charcuterie board.  They really elevate gluten free to another level.  As far as taste goes, they are very crunchy, not crispy, but crunchy. There are visible slivers of almonds and pumpkin seeds.  These are buckwheat based and not filled with other starches. There are several different flavors including: Maple Cinnamon Currant, Wild Blueberry Walnut, Savory Fig & Thyme, and Olive & Za’atar.  These were amazing and would be a great purchase for your next gathering.

Midi Bites
Sunflower Butter Power Bites

Midi Bites are a sunflower butter based power bite featuring oats, dates, chia, olive oil, flax seeds and pea protein.  Each individual package contains 5 little hunks.  There are several flavors including almond, salted cashew, peanut, and chocolate.  There is also a line geared towards children called Midi Kids with flavors like Oatmeal Chocolate, Cinnamon Crunch and Blueberry Muffin.  I am not a huge fan of sunflower butter or anything sunflower for that matter, but I did like these and so did everyone in my family.  One of my college sons who powerlifts, loved the fact that these had clean ingredients and a good amount of protein per piece.  He also loved that he could also grab a bag and be on his way.  There’s a lot to like about these: Certified Non-GMO, Certified Gluten-Free, Organic ingredients, Certified Small Business women owned, Preservative-Free, Dairy-Free, Soy-Free, Vegan, and Small Batch. I would grab these when going on a hike when quick but healthy energy is needed.

Midi Snacks

Midi BitesSaffron Road
Crispy Chickpeas

This has long been a favorite snack for my sons.  They are crunchy and come in a bunch of great flavors.  Some are mild, some pack a bit of a spicy punch.  I really wish that they would change out the inflammatory oils (they use canola and/or sunflower) for something a bit healthier. I’ve made my own roasted chickpeas, but they are not as crunchy as these. Purchasing these in store is cheaper than buying them direct online.

BoBo’s Bites
Oat Bites

If you have not seen Bobo’s, I am not sure where you’ve been.  They are everywhere: Target, Sam’s Club, most food stores, Walmart, etc.. BoBo’s has a large variety of products, but for this post, I sampled the BoBo’s Bites.  I really like them.  They are dense and hearty but in a really pleasing and satisfying way. They come in some great flavors including apple pie, strawberry, pumpkin spice, lemon poppy seed, and my favorite: strawberry lemonade.  The cheapest place to buy these is at Walmart in the store.  They are literally $2-3 cheaper per box than anywhere else I have seen them. I love the portability of these as they are individually wrapped and easy to grab or pop into a lunch. I also love the Stuff’d variety because there is actually a decent amount of filling inside.

Tosi Bites
Crunchy Bites

This was a new find for me – but a great find.  I really liked these a lot.  They are crunchy little bits of nuts and seeds.  They are very tasty and have a good amount of protein and fiber in each little pouch.  I do wish they didn’t have two forms of sugar.  There are several other products from Tosi that I would be interested in trying.  Despite looking around their site for further clarification about gluten free certification, I was unable to get clarification on the certification.  It has the “GF” on the packaging, but I don’t see who has done the certification.  I would contact the company directly for clarification.

Better With Buckwheat
Buckwheat Crackers

I am always excited when brands work with often neglected gluten free ingredients.  Buckwheat is one of those often neglected ingredients.  Despite its name, buckwheat is not wheat and is 100% gluten free.  I love buckwheat because it has good nutrition, something that many gluten free products are often lacking.  These crackers are good.  Some members of my family felt that they had a bit of a sandy texture, but I liked them.  I thought they were great served alongside of some homemade soup.  I am not a fan of the sunflower oil (I never will be).  However, they use high oleic sunflower oil which delivers more of the good stuff than other refined sunflower oils.

Fair & Square
Green Banana Flour Crackers

This is a newer company using a truly unique ingredient: green banana flour.  The crackers come in a few flavors including Honey, Cinnamon Sugar, Sea Salt, and Cheeze (vegan – no actual cheese).  My favorite hands down were the honey crackers.  They were very good.  I really appreciate that these crackers use a unique flour.  They were tasty.  They are a bit pricey for a 4 oz. box, but I understand that this often comes in the gluten free and allergy friendly market.  Sigh.  These crackers also come in single bags (1 oz) perfect for lunches.

Craize
Corn-based Toasted Snack Crackers

Amazing.  These are so good.  The Sweet Corn variety is the best.  So tasty.  No seed oils (how much do I love that?). Short ingredient list.  Big flavor. I do wish rosemary extract was not in everything everywhere, but it is.  These crackers come in several flavors – all of which are great.  I even liked the Guava which I didn’t think I would. I highly recommend these.

The Greater Knead Bagel Chips

If you’ve never tried the gluten free bagels from The Greater Knead, you should.  They are so good.  I think that is why I was so excited to try their gluten free bagel chips.  Bagel chips were all the rage when I was growing up, and I jumped right onboard that bandwagon!  Who doesn’t love a crunchy, slightly sweet or salty chip?  The bagel chips from The Greater Knead did not disappointment.  Each of the varieties was excellent, but by far, the cinnamon raisin were my favorite. I highly recommend these.

Whoa Dough
Plant Based Cookie Dough Bars & Cookies

Whoa Dough makes plant based cookie dough bars and cookies that are sweetened with allulose. Allulose is a sweetener that is not absorbed by the body and is excreted. Allulose is great if you are working to reduce the sugar in your diet.  The taste was good. I personally proceed with caution with sugar substitutes.  Allulose is GRAS (generally regarded as safe) in moderation according to the FDA. I can always tell how good a product is by its shelf life in my home.  I have three college aged sons living at home.  They eat a lot, and they’ll eat most anything if it’s even moderately good.  I still have several cookie dough bars sitting in my fridge.  While this may be a ‘no’ for my family, it may work for you and yours.  Check it out yourself and make the final call.

Mission Meat Sticks

We tried several meat sticks for this post, and while they were all great, Mission is the best in class.  The beef is grass fed and grass finished.  Amazing.  There is not junk, no sugar, no fillers, nothing objectionable.  They are the perfect grab and go snack for school, hiking, or anywhere.  They come in several different flavors including beef jalapeno, habanero, and smokey turmeric.  There are also turkey, pork, and kids’ mini beef sticks.  The taste is great. No odd textures or slimy feel.  Just goodness all around.  I can’t recommend these any higher.

Chomps Meat Sticks

Chomps brand meat sticks are also really good.  They are a little more accessible than Mission’s.  They can be purchased in Walmart, Target, and other retailers.  They also use grass fed and grass finished beef and are free of sugar, fillers, and any junk.  My family likes the different flavors that are available in beef, turkey, and venison variations. You can’t go wrong with Chomps meat sticks either.  They are the perfect protein when you are on the go.

Nick’s Sticks Meat Sticks

Again, another great meat stick option.  We loved that each package had a double meat steak.  I also loved that they use Redmond salt in their sticks (Redmond salt is the best salt you can buy in my opinion).  Nick’s Sticks are also free of fillers, additives, and junk.  Good pure meat and seasoning is what you will find.  The taste is also very good. There are several different varieties including beef, venison, turkey, and chicken in different flavors.

Allergy Smart

Allergy Smart makes crispy little delicious cookies that are school safe and free of the top 10 allergens:

Allergy Smart

I loved that these were individually packaged (2 cookies per pack).  They really are the perfect treat for your child to bring to school.  They are also delicious. I found them to be a tad grainy, but still, they are really delicious.  They come in flavors such as chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, chocolate, and birthday cake. There are also other treats for you to check out as well.

Endangered Species
Chocolate

I was gifted with a lovely box of chocolates from Endangered Species.  No one has to twist my arm to try chocolate.  And while this may be a stretch to qualify as a snack, my favorite item from the box were these luxurious truffles.  They were amazing.  Seriously, they were the best chocolates I’ve had.  I am not sure which one I liked better the Sea Salt or the Milk.  A really delicious treat is also their dip n’ joy packs.  These feature their chocolate batons and a dipping sauce.  If you want a decadent treat, check out all that Endangered Species has to offer. I don’t have pictures because the extreme heat in my area was not kind to the chocolate, but I assure you, you will not be disappointed. These truffles are literally on my Christmas wish list.

Crispy Green
Freeze Dried Fruit

I love fruit whether it’s fresh, dried, or freeze dried.  Crispy Green has a wonderful variety of freeze dried fruits.  I think my favorite was the strawberry.  It was amazing how naturally sweet they were.  There is only one ingredient that you will find on each package: fruit.  That’s it, and I love that.  These are a great snack to pack for school lunches, class trips, or any time snack time pops up.  You can buy individual bags or buy a 4-pack as well.  They have great crunch and are a really satisfying snack!

Navitas
Superfood Snacks

Navitas offers snacks with your health in mind. Their lineup of snacks features some of the best superfoods available like goji berries, cacao nibs, chia seeds, and more.  I really loved snacking on the Goji berries and cacao nibs.  Hands down my favorite were the Blueberry Hemp Power Snacks.  They had really great flavor.
