Loaded Cheeseburger French Fry Nachos

This unique spin on nachos will have your family asking for more!  Simple to make and so delicious, it’s everything that you love about a cheeseburger rolled into an irresistible plate of french fries served nacho style.

Nachos and Game Day

We are a sports loving family, and when big games roll around, big food is expected to be part of the experience.  We love the go-to’s: potato skins, chips and dip, and sliders.  But at the top of the list has to be nachos.  Not only do my boys love eating nachos, but they love making them as well.

Nachos are so easy and simple to pull off, and I absolutely love how versatile they are.  They can be filled with a whole host of toppings.  I really love to add a mix of fresh vegetables to the top of a hot pile of nachos.  It’s a great play of extremes.

March Madness and Cheeseburger Nachos

Currently my family is enjoying rooting for our favorite teams during college basketball’s March Madness (and keeping our fingers crossed that our brackets will land us in the top spot).  We’re all pretty competitive, but at this point, all of our brackets have pretty much tanked!

French Fries

Last week during one of the games we watched, I made this super simple play on nachos.  I took a classic flavor profile that we all love, cheeseburgers, and added a little bit of a unique spin.  Instead of using tortilla chips as the base for my nachos, I used french fries.   I started by picking up a 22 oz. bag of my favorite frozen french fries.  I used a standard cut fry, but you can opt for crinkle cut, steak fry, or waffle cuts as well.  All brands differ, so please check your ingredient lists to verify that the brand you select is gluten free.

Simply line a baking sheet with parchment paper.  Scatter the frozen french fries on the tray and cook according to the package instructions.  After that you are left to add toppings. While I made my “base” recipe, I had other toppings such as sour cream, crumbled bacon, and little diced pickles available to pop on top.

Special Sauces

A few weeks ago I had signed up to receive some free samples from Hellmann’s.  I was thrilled to have an opportunity to have a sneak preview of two of their new sauces: Hellmann’s Spicy Dipping Sauce and Hellman’s Classic Burger Sauce.  I was so happy that they were gluten free.  Not only that, but they are delicious as well.  I took the liberty of trying them out in this recipe, and I was really pleased with how they enhanced the overall flavor of my nachos.

The new sauces have hit the shelves at most stores.  Keep an eye open for them.  And as with any new product, please check ingredient lists to ensure that they are safe and meet your dietary needs.

Please note:  I received free samples of these sauces from Hellmann’s.  My opinions are my own.  I was not paid or compensated for my review or this post.

Loaded Cheeseburger Nacho French Fries - The Gluten Free Gathering

Loaded Cheeseburger French Fry Nachos

  • 1 pound ground beef, cooked, crumbled, drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup Hellmann's Spicy Dipping Sauce
  • 22 oz bag, gluten free frozen french fries

Special Sauce:

  • 2 ounces cream cheese, softened at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup Hellmann's Classic Burger Sauce
  • 3 tablespoons sweet Thai chili sauce
  • 3 teaspoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1/8 – 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt

Toppings:

  • 8 ounces block, sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 4 ounces block, Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups finely chopped romaine lettuce
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced scallions
  • 1 cup finely diced tomatoes; juice, pulp, seeds discarded

Optional Toppings:

  • 1 cup bacon; cooked, crisped, crumbled
  • 1 cup finely diced pickles
  • 1 cup sour cream
  1. Place all of the ingredients for the Special Sauce into small food chopper or processor. Cream together until smooth. Set aside
  2. Cook the french fries according to package instructions. I like to line a baking sheet with parchment paper (this will make cleanup very easy at the conclusion of this recipe).
  3. While the fries are cooking, cook the ground beef in a large skillet. Be sure to use a spatula to break the beef down into small crumbles as it cooks. Once the meat has cooked through, roughly 6-8 minutes (or until no pink color remains in the meat), drain the meat thoroughly to remove any grease. Return the cooked beef to the skillet and stir in ½ cup Hellman’s Spicy Dipping sauce, ¼ – ½ teaspoon sea salt, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Stir together and cook over medium heat for 2-3 minutes. Set aside
  4. Once the fries are cooked to your liking, remove the baking sheet from the oven. Gather the French fries close together in a single layer. Scatter the shredded cheddar cheese over the fries. Top with the cooked ground beef being sure to scatter the beef evenly among the fries, top with the remaining shredded Monterey Jack cheese, and return to the oven (425 degrees) for 5 minutes (or until the cheese has melted).
  5. Remove the fries from the oven and top with chopped lettuce, scallions, and tomatoes
  6. Place the special sauce into a resealable plastic bag. Cut a small corner off of the bag and drizzle the sauce over the top of the loaded nachos.
  7. Set out the other toppings for people to add as they like
